9 to 5: My Life As The Ultimate Retail Associate!
Twenty-one years ago, young Hiro wished to be the world's greatest retail associate. Now, at 31, he works in a supermarket, seemingly ordinary but armed with supernatural powers. Despite his extraordinary abilities, Hiro battles the soul-crushing grind of retail life, feeling like an empty husk in a world of aisles and shelves.
When I was too young to have a bank account and responsibilities, the baker at the the Albertsons by my house always gave me a free cookie when I came around. I eventually developed a dream of working at that very Albertsons. I would fantasize about being able to have unlimited cookies and snacks as well making a looot of money.
Sometime during covid lockdown, I worked the night shift at a big chain grocery store. I spent a lot of time stocking shelved and breaking down boxes and the like. Suffice it to say it was not like the dreams of my youth. Years later I was inspired to make a comic inspired by my youthful ambitions and the reality that hits later in life.
The comic follows Hiro, who, in the innocence of his youth wishes to a fairy to be the world’s greatest retail associate. He is now in his 30s, burnt out and jaded but with great power. It’s a lighthearted goofy comedy and will hopefully get a chuckle out of you.
